📆 When Was Django Born? [Research Tutorial]
Under my previous post about Django Eric Pascula noticed two things. First I subconsciously ignore the existence of the year 2021. It sounds like an obvious thing given what year was it. But his second comment was fascinating:
He confronted if Django was really born in 2005. Because as he wrote, according to Django official documentation Django 1.1 was released July 29, 2009, four years later.
So what is the truth? I will use this example to show you how I research information online. It is a nice tutorial on how to validate information and how to make sure information provided is correct. Let’s begin.
We will start our journey with Wikipedia, it states that Django was born in 2005:
As you can see Wikipedia uses initial release as the date of something being born. The date is referenced by an article:
The article comes from the official djangoproject.com page. So we can assume information there are correct and we can close the case. However, the page is not precise on the initial release date:
Does it mean that Django existed before, but became open-source in 2005? If yes…
