AI tools are empowering more and more non-programmers to bring their ideas to life through code. While this doesn’t signal the end of professional programming, it does suggest that software engineers should embrace the wave of passionate creators leveraging AI

Since the emergence of AI tools that assist with programming, we can observe — as I predicted — that more and more people are beginning to implement their ideas.

This represents a significant shift from the past, when you had to either learn programming thoroughly or rely on SaaS, no-code, or CMS platforms. Those approaches always came with inherent limitations.

In contrast, individuals using AI tools can now utilize something traditionally seen as complex (at least from the public’s perspective), such as coding, to create their initial MVPs or landing pages.

This is actually fantastic because it demonstrates AI’s potential to open up entirely new possibilities for millions. Programming previously wasn’t accessible to everyone; despite abundant resources, it still required substantial effort and investment. AI effectively bridges this gap, empowering more people to experiment and innovate.

This doesn’t mean AI will replace programmers or that programming as a profession will disappear. As I’ve mentioned earlier, there’s simply no chance of that. AI tools still have significant limitations, and every professional engineer understands that AI isn’t capable of fully performing our jobs — not now, and not in the near future.

Yet, we see ordinary people enthusiastically praising AI for enabling them to accomplish coding tasks. This brings back memories of our own first experiences building something. Perhaps the results aren’t impressive to us professionals, but for many people, these achievements were previously almost impossible, and now they’re within reach.

For us software engineers, this means we should embrace this new reality. Soon enough, more exciting…
