Ups. We broke the web again. Sorry
I am extremely old. I remember the times when there was no Internet at all. You were able to use only apps installed on your computer.
Than a new trend occured. HTML, Javascript and CSS made it possible to create websites and more and more advanced web apps.
Everyone decided it is better in most cases to have a web app, because you don’t depend on limitations imposed by operating system vendor. It was reasonable and beautiful.
Fast forward we are now in 2021. Three of major operating system vendors became major browser vendors.
Google, Microsoft and Apple control the web now. We came back to square one. We, again, depend on operating system vendors…
It would not be a big deal. Because if they decided to support open web than we all win right?
It is true to some extent. Talented people work in Google, Apple and Microsoft to create better and safer browsers each day. They do a lot of great work!
But on the other hand, it is hard to miss that evolution of web somehow stalled lately. Even if now we have multiple major versions of browsers during a year.
So what happened? Is there nothing more to be done?
I think that to search an answer for the question it is good to understand in what situation are system and browser vendors.
See, they earn most of they money from native apps. They can force app developers to use their payment…
