🇨🇭 Switzerland Goes Open Source

The capitol of delicious cheese and chocolate decided to open source public services code, data and APIs

Seven years ago Bulgaria decided to open source public service source codes. This year another European country follows the suit.

Switzerland is a small country in Europe, famous for the delicious cheese and chocolate. It’s also one of the wealthiest countries.

It’s also a country that is close to be described as democratic, because it organizes quite a few referendums on important changes. Something that does not exist in para-democratic countries.

In a bill passed this year, Switzerland found a new way to express freedoms and transparency.

The new law, called EMBAG (EN) madates that every source code developed by public administration should be open sourced.

The widely missed event by media is quite important. It follows Bulgaria suit and introduces only a handful of exceptions.

The action can’t infringe rights of 3rd parties and pose security risks.

The code has to be published on a licence that permits using, developing and distributing it free of charge. It’s quite permissive and can open new ways for cooperation between public…
