There is nothing that heats the debate more than saying anything about any operating system. Whether it’s Windows, Linux or macOS, any statement regarding them will unevitably conclude in a flame war comparable only to a pineapple pizza debates.
While everyone has their personal preferences and tastes, it is pretty obvious for many an operating system choice is far beyond choosing your retirement plan.
On top of this there are companies that eagerly offer their employees spyware packed laptops with an aim to protect company secrets. An unfortunate result of this practice is that companies decide what operating system you have to use for the work.
Let’s say you are an excellent coder that can squeeze the most from Linux system and companies pay you for you excellent productivity.
But the new company surprisingly sends you a Mac. It’s not so bad, since it’s not Windows right?
But the thing is you dislike both. Up until today you had a limited range of actions in such situation. You could give a notice or try to persuade the company to allow you to use the tools you find the best for your work.
