Microsoft Majorana 1 Is A Superposition Of Marketing Stunt And A Major Science Breakthrough
Microsoft announced it’s first proof-of-concept quantum processor with 8 qubits using a fascinating set of solutions. It’s team is confident they can accelerate faster than other in the business to reach 1 million qubits
Microsoft just announced Microsoft Majorana 1 and described it as first quantum processor powered by topological qubits.
What is it, and is it really a breakthrough? Let’s find out.
The release note is quite vague. For example it says Microsoft Majorana 1 is “designed to scale to a million qubits on a single chip”. I understand it means currently Microsoft Majorana 1 doesn’t have million qubits on a single chip. So how much does it have?
Later in the release we read that Microsoft believes it is able to do some stuff regarding quantum computers. Later we learn they have a roadmap from one qubit to an array with error correction.
