🌴 James Gosling, Founder Of Java Is Retiring

The Java creator retires, leaving community greatful for his technological and life wisdom he shared in a humble way over his lifetime career
I don’t have to introduce James Gosling, as he is one of the founders of todays technology world.
He created Java programming language and led it’s design to a point where it’s in TOP 3 programming languages worldwide with industries that solely rely on it’s cross platform, memory safe design.
It wasn’t a straight forward path, but pivoting through the fast changing world paid out eventually. You can read more about how Java was born from my previous article.
Now, Java ia developed by the community that proposes new features and developers who implement them into Java runtimes. So James can retire knowing that the future ahead Java is bright.

James is 69 years young, has two children and lives in Redwood City, California, USA.
On retirement he wants to focus on a long list of fun projects he always wanted to try out.

He mentions his last position in Amazon, where for last 7 years he held a position of Distinguished Engineer creating Greengrass, a system to manage IoT devices.
The comment section is filled with thank you notes and stories from people who meet Gosling and found that he is a humble and down to earth person what is vivid in his social media amount where he titles himself Software Engineer, what adds to the conclusion he is The Software Engineer.
From all the talks James gave over the course of time I remember one specific very well:
There’s a big difference between doing something interesting and doing something successful
Java is successful. And it reminds me that, especially as a software engineers, we have to focus on what’s successful, not do things because it’s fun. It’s a hard lesson to learn that it’s easy to have the focus drift away from the goal. Especially if you’re passionate about programming.
We all wish James great retirement and fun coding and enjoying other aspects of life. While James is still in his young ages, best wishes, health and all the good things!
