I’ve Reached Almost 50% Of My Goal With Tech Writing In 9 Months

9 months ago I’ve decided to come back to technical writing after years when I was unable to do it.

For most of the last nine months I was writing one article per day.

You may wonder how I’ve found time for that. I’m working on a daily basis as a professional software engineer and have a lovely family. Given all of my obligations it felt nearly impossible to aim at my goal.

The only time I have during the day to write anything is when everyone already sleeps.

It means that I wake up at 6–7am, work, after work I support my family and at about 11pm I start to write.

The research for one article takes around between half of hour to two hours. Writing takes an hour on average. I’m doing it on my smartphone.

It was a long nine months. Writing every day is fun, but also is hard, because you have to have a little bit of energy left after whole day.

Lately I was not able to keep up with that schedule, but overall, not always there is something to write about.

The result of almost 50% is nice, because I’ve expected to reach the goal in two years, so I’m on track to reaching that goal.

Aside Medium writing, I am also looking at other ways to earn money from technical writing, to diversify.

Three prizes on HackerNoon contributed also substantially to getting me closer to my goal.

It occurs that when people are talking about showing up everyday they are right. Also, you have to assume it will take several years to get you there.

There are no shortcuts, there are only people who don’t give up!
