How To Use Custom Fonts In Shopify In 2023
According to the official Shopify instruction, you can upload custom fonts to the theme assets or to Settings -> Files.
However, when you try to upload font to assets, you will learn it does not work. The font won’t load at all, while you will be sure the font is uploaded properly.
As it occurs, Shopify corrupts font files when uploaded. You can check it, by getting the URL of the font, opening it in the browser, saving the file from Shopify and trying to open it. Your OS will tell you the font is now corrupt.
Another method to upload a font described by Shopify is to upload it to Settings -> Files. Unfortunately, as of 2023, there is no “Files” option in “Settings. Actually, Shopify moved this option to Content -> Files in the main sidebar menu. There you can upload your font and get the link.
While this method is quite easy to use, it is against the best practices of developing themes. Currently, Shopify does not offer any solution to the problem, so we have to use that one if we develop themes with the built in theme editor.
