How Designers Worldwide Conspired To Turn World Into Greys
Why in 2025 everything is designed in black, white, grey or muted colors? Surprisingly corporations aren’t behind this conspiracy
One of my minor Roman Empires is color schemes used in designs worldwide.
You may have stumbled upon some evidence already that today’s designs are dull, boring, use black, white, grey colours or pale colours. Also in mobile apps on devices that can handle millions of colours with perfect representation.
But also cars are now white, grey or black, and Macdonald turned from a fun place to a coffin.
There are several reasons why this happens, so if you’re curious why 2025 is so dull, you’ll find answers here.
First of all, black, white and grey are cheap colours. It’s cheaper to paint a car with these colours, while blue, orange and pink paints are more expensive. But it’s not only that. Car manufacturers treat other paint colors as premium. So you have to pay even more than justified by paint cost to have a car with color.
It’s nothing new really, but in today’s economy when companies reach peaks of profits while people become poorer and poorer, greys emphasise the trend of selling junk to maximize profit.
