Fact check: Is Cypress Really Dying?

Maybe you’ve stumbled upon an article on this subject. It caught my attention because just several days ago I’ve read other article from Cypress blog, that they take measures to protect their IP.

The article mentioned before was written before the announcement.

It has a really strong title “Cypress is dying” and some really heavy bullet points.

Normally I wouldn’t fact check it, because there’s only so much spam you can read and validate.

But that article seemed legit, well written, with a set of really good arguments and sources. In fact it is partially data backed (at first sight), so it caught my attention again.

And also it’s about Cypress. Everyone knows Cypress. Cypress is open source, I write about open source. So it made sense to run a quick fact check.

I’ve really expected the article to be validated by the sources. But:

1. Typing "playwright cypress migrate" into browser doesn’t give any insight aside from tech bloggers monetizing on both tools, and also, maybe on Microsoft investments into marketing.

I've checked also google trends, and there is no indicator of cypress decline, it's search volume is several times higher than playwright. Playwright has…
