I have to say my relationship with music services is complicated. I was using Google Music until they shut it down and destroyed my playlists of hundreds of songs. Now I’m using Spotify and everything would be fine, if they didn’t show popups and complicate one simple thing: seeing your playlists and playing them with too much junk, and very poor discoverability.
Anyways, this is a topic for another article. Today I’d like to interest you in this fun small Python app. It allows you to download Spotify playlists. And it isn’t really about just downloading names of music, but downloading them from YouTube Music.
The terminal app does some magic to match songs, so it won’t work perfectly, but it’s very interesting. Actually I wouldn’t mind if the idea grew over time. I don’t mean even to download music from torrents or other places like that, I’d love to just pay a bribe to have a legal non-DRM local copy of my Shopify playlists locally after I’ve invested like $1500 over the…
