VSCode is pushing to become one stop shop for every developer. In the July set of improvements we get some awesome bones from the community of developers

Visual Studio Code is improved all the time. So it’s hard to track all the changes made. That’s why I’ve browsed for you July modifications to highlight stuff that’s the best. Let’s roll.

1. Moving Panels Above Source Code

It feels illegal to have a panel above your code editor. But now it’s possible.

2. Safer Extensions

I don’t know about you, but I tend to inspect new extensions I install in VSCode. It’s also important during updates because it’s a known vector of attack to take over developer credentials to push infested code out to the wild.

Now VSCode lets you disable auto updates easier, but also recognizes when a new update contains an executable code. In such case, you’ll be asked to confirm an update before it’s done, or review the extension. Pretty neat. Nicely done!
