What is the first thing that comes to your mind when you hear iPhone name? No, seriously. It’s Apple right?
And what comes to your mind if you hear Javascript? Again, seriously. Nothing right?
In fact, JavaScript is a trademark. It was registered in 1997, so according to my personal calculations, 3 years ago. Yeah, it was longer, but whatever.
It was registered by Sun if I read trademark data correctly. There’s also a trademark assignment document including words like Sunscreen or pharse like Save The Day, or even OpenJava.
Of course they’re narrowed to tech, but the problem really lies in the fact that Javascript, like no other language was hugged by a wide community.
It means that it’s ours. It’s mine, your, it’s everyone’s, but on paper it’s Oracle’s that bought Sun with the trademark.
