Bram Moolenaar, The Creator Of Vim Died

Most of the programmers, if not all, know a tool called Vim. It’s a powerful text editor beloved by some of the greatest developers.

It was released in 1991 and since that time was developed Bram and other open source developers.

According to a post published on the discussion board world lost Bram on 3 August 2023.

It is with a heavy heart that we have to inform you that Bram Moolenaar passed away on 3 August 2023.
Bram was suffering from a medical condition that progressed quickly over the last few weeks.

Bram dedicated a large part of his life to VIM and he was very proud of the VIM community that you are all part of.

Bram’s impact on the development world is tremendous, and his legacy will be carried on by the Vim community.

Bram Moolenaar was born in Lisse, south Holland in 1961. In 1988 he started to work on a Vi iMitation, a project that was inspired by Vi aiming at helping users experience fully visual text editor. The first release was made in his 30s, in 1991. Eventually Vim replaced Vi in many Unix based systems and became known for the powerful features bringing advanced text editing to a new level.

Bram was known for his good heart. He used the popularity of Vim to promote ICCF charity cause, where he actively participated helping people in Uganda.
